My Background
I was raised in Brisbane and completed my orthopaedic training in Queensland. I became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1999. I then completed a fellowship in knee and shoulder surgery at SportsMed SA and I then moved to Townsville in 2001 to commence practice as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. My practice initially involved surgery of the knee, hip and shoulder but over the last five years I have dedicated myself exclusively to surgery of the knee. In 2012 I set up the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland and have been on the Board of Directors since inception. I have held numerous leadership positions in the specialty over the years including Head of Department at the Townsville University Hospital, Director of Training at the Townsville University Hospital, General Director of the Queensland branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Scientific Secretary of the Queensland branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and National Representative for the International Society of Orthopaedics and Trauma. I am currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland and the representative for the Australian Knee Society on the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry.
My current practice covers the entire spectrum of knee disorders. This includes nonoperative as well as operative treatment. I have special interests in individualised knee replacement using advanced technologies, enhanced recovery after surgery protocols, infection prevention and ligament reconstruction of the knee. I have published many papers related to knee surgery in peer reviewed journals and am currently one of the world's leading authors and authorities on using computerised systems to individualise knee replacement to an individual's specific anatomy. I am currently the only surgeon dedicated solely to surgery of the knee in the northern half of Australia. My expertise and experience in these fields is recognised nationally and internationally. I have consultancies with industry related to the aforementioned areas of special interest and have been an invited speaker on these subjects at numerous national and international meetings.
The Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland supports an international fellowship. I am chief supervisor for the fellowship and have trained surgeons from Europe, Asia and Australia.
